Key concepts 2

Setting the scene

Hopefully you feel you have a grasp of the general concept of Psychological Safety.

The more important work is putting this into practice and building Psychologically Safe teams and a safe organisational culture. Remember, this is about creating a high performance learning organisation.

What follows in this part is a dive into the four major areas that we need to focus on. We’ll cover them briefly here then spend more time on each one in the following sections. You’ll find explanations, things to reflect on, additional material, tools and exercises.

Remember, too, that this takes time and effort. You and others might misstep occasionally. That’s normal. Expected even. What’s important is how we frame the work in the first instance, and how we talk about it in our teams.

The four focus areas are these:

  • Frame the work (parts 1 and 2)
  • Acknowledge fallibility
  • Create speaking spaces
  • Ask questions

We’ll look at each in more detail.
